Ummm....are you sure benevolent is the word you are looking for?
Certainly applicable to the coat.
The clown ....um....I think the gods perhaps might be feeling, well...vengeful.

Wow - I have that clown also! (It was given to my older brother when he was a baby - in the early 60's). I've used it as a "prop" - http://flickr.com/photos/winkdesigns/1471478676/in/set-72157601829446757/
(I think he looks slightly, clownishly evil......)

wow. that coat is gorgeous - great find! i started collecting vintage toddler coats, too - long before hadley was even born! i couldn't wait for her to grow into them. of course, now i wish she would not be growing so quickly - and not because of the coats!
