Hi. Me again. In non techy news I am at day five of extreme calf pain. Not the bovine variety but the ones that dangle off your knees. I had the genius idea to embrace the barefoot running movement, thank god I started in sand shoes is all I can say.
Think I would have needed hospitalisation if I'd gone the whole hog. Anyway I ran for fifty minutes and felt pretty happy about it until I tried to put my feet on the floor the following morning. And I speak as someone who went through two drug free births. That's the end of my barefoot running career, back to SUV nikes. Xx

Hi Rummage,
Ouch! No wonder you are sore after 50 minutes on your bare (or minimally-supported) feet! I'm learning barefoot running after a series of horrible injuries, but I am working with my physiotherapist and going very slooooowly and carefully (five minutes on the treadmill at a time to begin with). My physio, who is a very experienced marathoner, says that he sees lots of people who try to run barefoot without learning the proper technique and injure themselves (mostly stress fractures in the feet). He actually prefers the term "midfoot running" and suggests wearing running shoes that are lighter, with less-built-up soles, rather than no shoes at all (Nike et al have jumped on the bandwagon and are making "minimal" shoes).
If you want to give it another go, look for a barefoot running coach in your neck of the woods and you might be more successful!
Cheers,
Jemma
