Never thought the day would come but we have finally decided to heave-ho out of the inner city, in fact to another city entirely - and another state for that matter.
Our teeny-tiny house which was already too small when we bought it can no longer contain us. So over the next month or two I thought you might like a peek at our home as we get it ready for sale.
We live in a neighbourhood regarded by many as a dangerous drug-infested ghetto although we prefer to see it as just a little colourful. When we bought our house four and a half years ago all the windows and doors were covered with security screens and grilles that suggested it was under constant siege. The first thing we did after moving in was to replace these with some beautiful handmade ironwork made by a traditional blacksmith. The design incorporates the eucalyptus leaf reflecting the trees that line our street. We give the bars a coating of fish oil once every few years and they are like a work of art framing our home. And do you know it's ironic when almost everyone I know has been broken into, we have never had a problem.
On another topic, thank you for the comments about the post-natal depression/anxiety stuff I've been experiencing. A piece of really good news is that my daughter slept from 12 to 5:30am for the first time in 11 months. Things are on the up.

Sleep = bliss!
Love your burglar bars. Our neighborhood is "colorful," too - we never could have afforded our house in a tonier part of town - and we've been thinking for a long time about commissioning artful bars for our basement windows. They were boarded up by the last owner with plywood and I dream of letting the light in. We do spend a bit of time there since it's the location of our laundry and my husband's workshop. Anyway, your bars are a lovely inspriration.
Looking forward to seeing more of your house and following your big adventure as you prepare to move.
