I love to read, love, love, love it. I dream of weekends when I pause only to sip my tea or turn a page. I remember those books that stopped the traffic - no meals, no ablutions, nada until the last page was turned. The desolation when the narrative was over and there was nothing more. I wish I could read like that again.
I will read like that again, some day. For now I need short narratives, less complex plots, less characters, less names to remember. So I was delighted to discover Persephone Books, in their own words:
"Persephone prints mainly neglected fiction and
non-fiction by women, for women and about women.
The titles are chosen to appeal to busy women
who rarely have time to spend in ever-larger bookshops
and who would like to have access to a list of
books designed to be neither too literary nor
too commercial. The books are guaranteed to be
readable, thought-provoking and impossible to
forget."
I like the sound of that. And I love their book design and overall aesthetic - the dove grey covers and the fabric endpapers from the likes of textile design luminaries such as Lucienne Day are stunning. Go and check out their website here.
xx
PS I'd love to tell you that the photo shows the small person climbing up to get a book but she was actually caught red-handed in the biscuit tin.
Have a gorgeous weekend!
Your post title is very alliterative! I know how you feel, I get like that at times. Sometimes you're just too busy for books that require great depths of thinking. Thank you for introducing me to these books, I'm always looking for something new to read!

I will read like that again, so many books that I've missed in the last 5 or 6 years, I enjoy just browsing through Amazon just to make a mental note of what I WILL read ... soon.
Darling photo!
