Rummage

I'm quilting this one myself with 100% wool batting. The outer layer is a vintage wool I've been saving for a rainy day and the inner layer is a toning check wool. Have I mentioned that I'm obsessed with quilted garments? Tell me if I'm getting too 1970's herbal hipster here.

I can't follow a formal pattern to save myself but for once the radical improvisations didn't have me wishing to hurl my sewing machine out the window from a great height. In fact the craft room was eerily calm with nary a rude word in sight. x

 Her first paper cranes. 

We woke to the unusual sound of heavy rain so its been all about indoor cubby construction, lego and reading here at the House of Rummage. The girls and I just finished Sadako and the 1000 Paper Cranes, two of us sobbed all the way through the last two chapters. As the Frenchman said, if we don't produce a pair of dedicated pacifists after reading that book then no one can. They spent time today researching the statue of Sadako in the Hiroshima Peace Park. This is a great site for kids with a little animation in English about Sadako, if you're interested. There are instructions for paper crane folding here. x

 

I hope your weekend is filled with a bounty of windfall branches, chestnuts and pink lady apples, open wood fires and a thermos of steaming tea. xx

 

I love this jacket, it's not done but I like it all the same with the raggedy-arse look at the cuffs and neck that circumvents the cutsie print. It was modelled on a design in a Japanese craft book, (which I can locate if you want the details), but I did my own thing with it which is now my accepted practice, speaking as one with an instructions deficit disorder.

 

I'm making two more of these simultaneously. The second one I'm quilting myself and I LOVE IT! Will show you soon! I've always loved the asian sensibility for quilted clothing in cooler weather but I want to see it with a funkier edge. You feel me? 

PS. Have been watching The Wire incessantly and it is the best damn television full stop. Am now in the fifth and final series and I can't bare the thought of it ending. If you haven't seen it, Do, but from the 1st series, don't skip around because it's complicated.

Yes, that would be the Ensuite Bathroom Window Sill and no I have no idea why I photographed it. And now you've seen everything, I shall hang up my blogging fingers and retire to the lounge with a big bowl of chocolate ice cream. x

 I am partial to a dolly and although I told the lady who was selling them that I was buying them for the girls it was a completely wobbly, they're really mine, MINE, MINE. Also, they are the new banner but I'm posting them again here because I change the banner almost as often as my undergarments. Twenty dollars for the lot, huzzah! x

The good thing is the creepy bloke didn't make a lunge at my undergarments although I was bailed up by a rogue chicken in the midst of a break and run. And then there was a small matter of the bag of sheep manure that the excitable whippet tried to round up and beat into submission.   

In other news I may or may not have elbowed a little old lady out of the way when I saw this tea caddy for the sprightly sum of $5. xx
